Geneva justice has faced a 4.9% increase in new cases in 2022. This increase in cases processed, which has been continuing for several years, concerns both minors and adults.
In 2022, the Geneva courts handled nearly 105,000 procedures, all sectors and jurisdictions combined, which represents an increase of 1.7% compared to the previous year. “For the eighth time in a row, more than 100,000 procedures have been processed”, commented to the media on Tuesday, Attorney General Olivier Jornot, also chairman of the Judicial Power Management Commission.
The civil sector represents 52.5% of the procedures handled in 2022. Its level of activity has been stable overall, even if the Court for the protection of adults and children as well as the Conciliation Commission for leases and rents have increased by more than 15%.
Rise at the Adult and Child Protection Court
The increase in new cases before the Juvenile Court was confirmed (+13%). These figures are in a way the mirror of society, said Attorney General Olivier Jornot in La Matinale on Wednesday, even if it is difficult to explain this increase.
“There are still certain effects which are linked to the pandemic but they should no longer be overestimated today. We are a canton which generates a lot of protection needs, this raises questions for society but justice must be there to respond. to these protection needs.
The Adult Protection Service also confirms an increase in new files.
