Generous Thurgauers – petty Zurichers
The people of Zurich don’t want any shooting kings or queens from outside the canton. We Thurgauers are above that and still send them our mulled wine king to Albisgüetli.
The people of Zurich are a bit petty. It’s nice that they let 30 boys and girls from Thurgau take part in their time-honored boys’ shooting competition. But no matter how good their shots are, they won’t become shooting king or queen. Only young people from the city or canton of Zurich are allowed to do that.
Does that fit in a cosmopolitan city where English is spoken in every junk shop? Fortunately, we Thurgau residents are not vindictive. We sent none other than the busy Frauenfeld showman Hans Peter Maier – also known for his year-round mulled wine – to the Chilbi at Albisgüetli.
Maier has set up his boxing machines there. It was very well received and is also a kind of peace mission. True to the motto: Hit the punching bag instead of the neighbor. Maier can even scientifically prove with a study that the boxing machines have brought peace to fairs. No further details are known about this, but the Knabenschiessen 2024 is said to have been extremely peaceful.
