Hall/MZ. – The fate of little Milana moves people in Saxony-Anhalt. Since the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung published an article about the five-year-old Ukrainian on Tuesday, 281 people have already donated money. A total of 10,848 euros were raised for Milana’s family (as of Friday afternoon). “I would like to thank everyone who cares about other people’s misfortunes,” writes Elena Kravets, Milana’s mother, to the MZ in response to this response. “Now we don’t feel alone in this country.”

The Kravets family fled the war in Ukraine in April 2022. Milana is the youngest of five siblings. She suffers from severe brain damage, which even treatment at the University Hospital in Halle could not resolve in the long term. Since April of this year, the five-year-old has been in the children’s hospice in Magdeburg, where she will probably die.
Because the family’s fate was very close to her, the anesthetist Angelika Kolodin started for Milana in mid-November a fundraising campaign on the GoFundMe internet platform. Kolodin works for the University Hospital in Halle and met the Kravets family there. The money should be used for moving, setting up a new apartment and any travel costs that are currently incurred. The family actually lives in Halle, but there was no free hospice place for Milana. That’s why Elena Kravets and the two younger children moved to the hospice in Magdeburg. Milana’s father stayed with her older siblings in the family’s apartment in Halle.

Before the MZ article about Milana’s fate was published last Tuesday, the fundraising campaign had received donations of almost 800 euros. “You noticed very quickly how the article affected the readers. I am surprised, happy and speechless at this solidarity,” says Angelika Kolodin. The nurse, who is herself a mother of two, says she has received many sympathetic messages. And some donors also expressed their condolences on the GoFundMe page. Anke Wolter, who donated 20 euros, wrote: “I am very affected by the fate of the family and their little daughter. I hope the donations will help the family.” And Martin Voss (also 20 euros) wished “the little one all the best and the parents lots of strength”.
Family moves to Magdeburg
Elena Kravets writes that she wants to use the money to pay the deposit for a new apartment and the move. As a family they decided to move from Halle to Magdeburg. Milana’s health does not allow her to move and she is receiving “professional care” in the hospice, which is why she should stay there. Magdeburg also has the advantage that they all live together and can visit Milana every day. They want to use the remaining donations to pay for Milana’s upcoming funeral. “We will put everything else aside as our girl goes into eternity,” writes Elena Kravets.
