Generative AI Emerges as a Key Risk for Enterprises, According to Gartner Survey

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) has become one of the main risks for organizations, follows from the survey Gartner. It was mentioned by 66% of respondents.

The survey was conducted among 249 heads of corporate risk management in the second quarter of 2023. Generative AI was included in this rating for the first time, noted in Gartner.

The top 5 top risks for organizations by frequency of mention included:

viability of counterparties (67%); mass availability of generative AI (66%); financial planning uncertainty (62%); concentration of operations in the cloud (62%); tension in trade with China (56%).

In connection with the development of generative AI, Gartner analysts have identified three segments that need to be kept under control in terms of enterprise risk management: intellectual property, data privacy and cybersecurity.

“This reflects the rapid growth in public awareness and application of generative AI tools, as well as the vast opportunities for its use and, therefore, the potential risks from these tools,” said Gartner Risk & Audit practice research director Ran Xu.

In February, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak advised caution with ChatGPT. According to him, the chatbot is “pretty impressive” and “useful for people.” However, it carries a number of serious problems.

In March, more than a thousand AI experts called for a six-month suspension of large language model development. Two days later, a group of other specialists criticized the initiative.

Recall that in April, Microsoft founder Bill Gates opposed the call to suspend AI development due to fear of risk to society.
