The attitude towards work differs a bit between the generations – some are more workaholics, others don’t take it that seriously. But you shouldn’t scissor over a comb.
Different people have different attitudes towards work and career in general. There are also some differences between the different generations. Work attitude – from over present to laissez faire
Full-time, part-time, flextime or a four-day week – there are many working models. For some people, the focus is on work-life balance, while others strive for general job satisfaction through a specific job. Social media likes to parody the approaches and idiosyncrasies of people from different generations. Among other things in this video by Puls, a portal of Bavarian Radio.
The work ethic of a baby boomer is exaggerated in the video, so the person is willing to attend a meeting even on vacation so that they don’t miss anything. The motto here is: “I should actually be free…”, the big but comes directly and the person is right in the middle of the action. Millennials are just as ready but not as perfectly prepared as baby boomers. In the parody it is mentioned that you have to get yourself a coffee and then you can start right away. Generation Z, i.e. those who are now gradually entering the job market, are presented as the most relaxed and with a low work ethic. In this case, because the moon is in an unfavorable position. Also included, of course, is the greeting attributed to the generation, “Hi Besties”.
Work attitudes: between approval and rejection
Even if there are many parodies and other exaggerated examples in the media about people’s different work attitudes, one must not forget that one should not lump all people together. Ultimately, regardless of any particular generation, there are people who may or may not value work. If you notice that your current work environment is bad for you, you should question what you can do about it. It is important that you do not rush into anything. However, you should not be afraid to say no and refuse tasks.
