Generation Z and the Importance of Precautionary Measures for Occupational Disability: A Continentale Study

Generation Z (Gen Z), i.e. those aged 18 to 29, are more aware of the need for precautionary measures in the event of occupational disability. This is what sets them apart from other generations. This is a result of the current Continentale study “Security of the workforce – (not) an issue among the population”. 80 percent of 18 to 29 year olds find private BU insurance important. Compared to other insurance policies, this is the most important insurance for Gen Z at 41 percent after liability (77 percent).

Young people are more aware, but less informed

Overall, the young target group is more aware of the issue of workforce security. This is also reflected, for example, in the fact that they are more likely to know that mental illnesses are the main cause of occupational disability. At the same time, they underestimate their own risk, are less likely to be informed and therefore have not yet taken any precautions.

Many people think they are still too young to take precautions

A third of 18 to 29 year olds have not yet taken out BU insurance because they consider themselves too young. But you can’t be too young for that. On the contrary: On the one hand, even young people can become mentally ill, for example. On the other hand, the earlier the protection is taken out, the cheaper it is. In addition, half of those surveyed in the study do not know that students can already get insurance. Therefore, intermediaries should provide young people or even their parents with targeted and comprehensive information about preventive care options.

Flexible, affordable BU pension provision for young people

Continentale offers excellent BU provision for tight budgets especially for young people between 15 and 35 years old. With the Continentale PremiumBU Start the insured person has full BU protection from the start. He only pays half of the premium in the first three years. Over the following five years, this increases in small steps up to the full premium. Continentale has currently reassessed the risks for academics and doctors. The result: For around 700 professions in these target groups, which are particularly attractive to intermediaries, the costs are falling Contributions on average by 20 percent.

The starter protection can be individually adapted thanks to extensive additional insurance guarantees, flexible options and attractive upgrade options. For example, with the career package, which gives the customer the following advantages, among others:

  • Double your BU pension to up to 2,500 euros upon completion of your training or studies.
  • After further training or after a career change, have it checked whether a cheaper contribution is possible.
  • Thanks to the starter bonus, you can receive an additional EU pension of up to 500 euros in the first five years of work if you are unable to work.
