“Generation Treasure” Award: Winners and Distinguished Works in Nabati Poetry

Today, Saturday, the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center announced the names of the winners of the second session of the “Generation Treasure” Award, which aims to honor creators and distinguished works of art that deal with Nabati poetry and contribute to enriching this authentic Arab heritage.

The 2023 session of the award witnessed a great diversity and richness in entries, as it received 264 nominations in its six branches from 27 countries, including 17 Arab countries.
The award in the “Arts” branch was won by the artist Montaser Fathi from Jordan for his artistic painting “In Which the Lights Shine,” in which he combined calligraphy, design with letters, and abstraction in a creative path. The color treatment increased the beauty and uniqueness of this painting, and made it in a hormonal state between presenting the design and the letter. And the color block, as the painting carried an aesthetic vision that confirmed the goal of the award and carried the meaning of the award’s title.
In the “Studies and Research” branch, Dr. Abdullah Manea Ghleis from Kuwait won for his book “The Sufficient Reference on Meters and Rhymes for Classical and Nabati Poetry,” published by Dar Al-Asmaa in 2023. This study was distinguished by novelty and sobriety, and provided an addition to the Arab library through a book characterized by methodology. Clear and precise scientific research, with a systematic approach between the meters of classical poetry and Nabati poetry, to constitute an important reference for scholars and researchers in the meters of classical and classical poetry.

The award for the “Poetry Publications” branch was won by Abdullah Al Nuaimi from the UAE for his collection “A Love Renewed,” published by Dar Mulhamoun in 2022. The poetry publication was distinguished by its authentic and expressive language and the diversity of its content and purposes, as it presented a new and distinctive vision of the Nabataean poem. He also preserved the authenticity of the Nabataean poem with all its characteristics and uniqueness, and the density of poetic images and the richness of the original linguistic lexicon became clear in it. The collection constitutes an important experience in terms of the topics it addresses and the uniqueness of the poetic language.
In the “Poetry Competition” branch, the poet and journalist Ali Asiri, known as “Ali Al-Sabaan” from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, won for his poem “The Poetry Model.” The text was distinguished by its cohesion, precise style of wording, and abundant vocabulary. The poet enriched his text with great poetry and intense meanings, while preserving the sequence of ideas, the depth of meanings, the essence of the original idea, a parallel distance between originality and modernity, the depth of the idea and the ease of vocabulary.

The poet Saif Al-Saadi from the UAE won the title of “Creative Personality”, as he is considered one of the most prominent poets on the Gulf scene, and his poems are distinguished by their depth of meaning, their focus on the local vocabulary, and their unique poetic images. Over the course of thirty years, he presented many distinguished poetry programs, and was a member of the jury of the “Ra’i Al-Poem” competition on Sama Dubai TV, and supervised the “Popular Poetry” page in Al-Bayan newspaper. Al-Saadi headed the magazine (Jawaher for Popular Poetry), which was founded by the late poet Hamad Khalifa Bu Shehab in the early eighties of the last century, and he published a collection of poems entitled “Mithaq.”

His Excellency Saud Al Hosani, Undersecretary of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, said: “The award draws its presence and intellectual and moral weight from the poetic vision of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God have mercy on him, and his far-sightedness and wisdom in the field of writing and poetic creativity, and contributes to supporting the efforts of the Emirate.” Abu Dhabi aims to highlight this type of literature, which represents the language of society, the carrier of its aspirations and issues, and the true mirror of the present and future of the country. The award also translates the strategic objectives of the department to preserve the Emirati cultural and historical heritage and celebrate its achievements and its creators.”
Dr. Ali bin Tamim, head of the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language, said: “Since its establishment, the Center has been keen to support various efforts aimed at improving the Arabic language and its literature. Poetry represents a basic pillar and a vital element in the Arab literary heritage due to the specificity it possesses and the ability to convey ideas, messages and issues and link the present to the past.” With rhythms that indicate the purposes of his essence, and the magnificence of his expressions that made him one of the authentic components of Arab culture.”
He added: “The Treasure of the Generation Award carries an exceptional value derived from the poetic talent of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, the leader who presented the most beautiful Nabataean poems that have been immortalized in the minds and memories of all members of the local and Gulf community. Today we honor a new elite of poets.” The figures of Nabati poetry who pave the way with their new works and projects to raise the status and presence of this type of literature, and consolidate it in the minds of new generations, in addition to honoring researchers, visual artists, and translators.”
The Chairman of the Award’s Supreme Committee, Dr. Ali Al-Kaabi, confirmed that “Treasure of the Generation” is a necessary step to enrich the Arab cultural and literary reality with new and innovative poetic models that serve to introduce the arts and literature of this type of poetry, and provide readers and the Arab library with qualitative research projects that shed light on its aesthetics and specificity.
He added: “The winning works of the second cycle of the award were distinguished by their specificity that was able to demonstrate creativity in the field of Nabati poetry, and it can be said that they are examples that herald more projects that would make a difference in the process of development and sustainability of Nabati poetry.”
The ceremony honoring the winners will be held on November 22 at the Zayed Central Library in Al Ain, as part of the activities of the Al Ain Book Festival 2023, which is organized by the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language during the period from November 19 to 25.
The winner will be honored with the title of Creative Personality and awarded a golden medallion bearing the award logo and a certificate of appreciation, in addition to a financial prize amounting to 500,000 dirhams. The winners in the other branches will receive a gold medallion, a certificate of appreciation, and a financial prize worth 200,000 dirhams.
