In an act of savagery between supporters of Querétaro and Atlas, this Saturday (6), at the La Corregidora de Querétaro stadium, during a match for the Mexican Championship, at least 15 people were killed and dozens injured.
The images are shocking and show people hitting others with chairs, iron bars and woodbeatings and many injured, bloodied thrown on the lawn, ditch and stands of the stadium.
Information about the deaths is unofficial and published by the Mexican press. The local government officially confirmed only 22 injured, however.
How did the confrontation start?
The match was going on normally, with Atlas winning 1-0, until 17 minutes into the second half, a fight that started in the stands took on gigantic proportions, with the entire stadium being involved.
The referee ended the match and whoever managed it left the field.
“Violence is unacceptable and regrettable. Those responsible for the lack of security in the stadium will be punished exemplarily. The safety of players and fans is our priority”, said the president of Liga MX.
The two clubs quickly rushed to repudiate the actions of the fans.
“Atlas regrets and disapproves of the events. Football must be an ally to promote values and family fun. We ask the authorities to investigate deeply and reach the ultimate consequences. That the full force of the law is applied.”
“As an institution, we condemn violence,” Querétaro said in a statement.
