Adliswil / Nyon – Generali Switzerland has a new boss: Christoph Schmallenbach replaces Andreas Krümmel as CEO. After six years at the head of the Swiss Generali branch, he is looking for a new challenge outside the company, the insurer announced on Wednesday.
The new head of Switzerland, Schmallenbach, has been working in various positions for the Italian insurance group for around 30 years. Most recently, from 2017 to the end of 2021, he was part of the Generali Board of Management in Germany, where he was responsible for exclusive sales with around 3,000 salespeople.
Schmallenbach is an accomplished insurance expert with extensive experience in managing transformation projects, Generali International boss Jaime Anchustegui is quoted as saying. Now he is to promote the implementation of the “Avanti 2027” strategy launched in January at Generali Switzerland. The focus is on digitization.
Generali is well represented in Switzerland with around 1,800 employees, especially in the insurance business for private customers and SMEs, and claims to have more than one million customers. In 2020, the insurer had taken in premiums of CHF 1.9 billion, but had to accept a loss, mainly due to the strengthening of reserves. (awp/mc/ps)
