According to him, it is possible that Western countries will have to supply weapons to Ukraine for many more years
The head of the Czech General Staff, General Karel Rzeha, urged the public to prepare for the “bad scenario” of Ukraine’s counter-offensive.
In an interview with BILD, Rzheka said that now no one can predict how the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will end. “The outcome of the war depends not only on tanks and armored personnel carriers. There are too many unknowns here,” the military said.
He then explained what he meant by “bad scenario”. “Personally, I think we should prepare for a bad scenario – a long war,” the general replied.
According to him, perhaps Western countries will have to supply Ukraine with weapons for many years to come: “The Russians think that time is on their side. We have to show them wrong.” Rzhechka added that the Czech Republic has already delivered more than 250 Soviet tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and helicopters to Ukraine, UNIAN writes.
The general urged Western politicians to prepare society for the fact that the war could last for years. This applies not only to defense, but also, for example, to the economic sphere. “No less important is our readiness to support Ukraine on other fronts as well: morally, diplomatically, financially and in other areas such as education, culture, construction, etc.,” the military commander said.
On May 25, 2023, Mikhail Podolyak, an adviser to the head of the presidential administration, announced the start of the counteroffensive, but soon clarified that the counteroffensive operation was not a one-day job, it would not begin “by cutting the red tape.”
Separately on the same day, Igor Zhovkva, deputy head of the OP, said that the counteroffensive would begin as soon as the country received the necessary weapons from the allies.
The West continues to supply the Ukrainian troops with the necessary equipment and ammunition, and the Ukrainian armed forces are beating the occupation forces, focusing on the battles in Bakhmut, Marinka and other settlements in the Donbass.
Russia, in turn, has launched massive missile strikes and attacks on infrastructure, including military and energy, with Iranian drones since the beginning of this month, thus trying to prevent the launch of a counteroffensive.
