General Sergey Surovikin, also known as General Armageddon, has been relieved of his post as commander of the Russian Aerospace Forces. This was written in his Telegram channel by the former head of “Echo of Moscow” Alexey Venediktov, referring to a decree of the President of the Russian Federation.
According to the journalist, the decree also states that Surovikin will remain at the disposal of the Russian Ministry of Defense. Such a decree has not been officially published.

General Surovikin was relieved of his post “in connection with a transfer to another job”, a “source familiar with the situation” informed RBC, and a “source familiar with the personnel decision in the Ministry of Defense” confirmed. “At the moment, he is on a short-term leave”, specifies one of the interlocutors of the publication.
Surovikin headed the command of the Aerospace Forces of Russia from October 31, 2017. In the period from October 2022 to January 2023, he commanded the joint grouping of Russian troops in Ukraine, and from January 11, 2023, he held the position of deputy commander.
During the PMC “Wagner” riot on June 23-24, Surovikin recorded a video message to the mercenaries, in which he called on them to return to their places of work. After that, he does not appear in public. Reports appeared in the media that Surovikin had been detained. According to the Wall Street Journal, after the PMC Wagner mutiny, the Russian Ministry of Defense suspended or fired about 15 Russian officers.
