General Secretary (Sekum) of the Central Leadership Muhammadiyah, Abdul Mu’ti responded to the statement of the vice presidential candidate for the Change Coalition, Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin), who said that 90 percent of Muhammadiyah supported the AMIN pair. Abdul Mu’ti said that there were Muhammadiyah members who were on the successful team for the three presidential candidates.
“I don’t know about the choices of Muhammadiyah members. What I know is that there are leaders of the Muhammadiyah Persyarikatan and Charity Enterprises who are the success teams for the three presidential-vice presidential candidates,” Mu’ti told reporters, Friday (24/11/2023).
Mu’ti said that Muhammadiyah members have the freedom to determine leaders in the 2024 elections. He said that their track records can be seen for each presidential and vice presidential candidate.
“Muhammadiyah residents have the freedom to make choices according to their conscience as well as a rational and objective assessment of the program and track record of the presidential and vice presidential candidates,” he said.
He said that the most important thing in the upcoming political contestation was maintaining unity. He does not want the 2024 election to divide society.
“Regarding differences in choices, Muhammadiyah members should always maintain unity by being open and tolerant towards those who have different choices,” he added.
Previously, Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin (AMIN), received honorary members of Muhammadiyah. Cak Imin hopes that the honorary member award is a form of support because according to him 90 percent of Muhammadiyah supports AMIN.
“Yes, I really hope so, but we know that Muhammadiyah invites all candidates too, so yes. But as far as I know, 90 percent of Muhammadiyah, AMIN,” said Cak Imin at his official residence, Jalan Widya Chandra IV, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday (24/11 ).
Cak Imin also expressed his gratitude for being honored as a member of Muhammadiyah. He said he had a lot to learn from Muhammadiyah.
“I am very, very proud to thank Muhammadiyah for being given the opportunity to brainstorm ideas and at the same time be given respect as a member of Muhammadiyah. I and all of us have to learn from Muhammadiyah,” he said.
