It will be possible to get a corona vaccine at all GP posts in Urk. Residents then no longer have to go to the injection location of the GGD in Emmeloord or another place. In Urk, less than a quarter of the population is currently vaccinated. The village therefore has the lowest vaccination rate in the Netherlands.
In the coming days, the GGD Flevoland and the general practitioners will further develop the plan. It is expected that vaccinations can be started by the end of this week or early next week, reports Broadcasting Flevoland.
The municipality of Urk says it supports the action. “The number of corona infections is increasing rapidly. There are also hospital admissions of residents with corona,” according to the municipality.
Threshold lowering
So far there seems to be little enthusiasm in Urk to get a shot. The GGD Flevoland does not think that religious considerations are decisive. “That’s really too easy,” said a health service spokesperson earlier. “Urk has been an independent area for a long time. The government is viewed with a certain distance and skepticism.” At the beginning of this year, another test location was replaced set on fire during curfew riots.
The general practitioners hope to turn the tide by actively entering into discussions with the Urkers. They want to answer questions and offer people an immediate opportunity to get a shot. General practitioner Wilco Bloed indicates that he fully supports the plan. He expects it to lower the threshold and emphasizes that the corona vaccines have been proven effective.
Like all other general practitioners in the Netherlands, the general practitioners in Urk also vaccinated people over 60 with the AstraZeneca vaccine at the beginning of this year. When that vaccine came in bad light came up, the Urk GPs have completely stopped vaccinating. Blood indicates that cooperation with the GGD is important, because it saves GPs a lot of administrative work.
