General Practitioner and Researcher Shakib Sana Joins Pharos Supervisory Board

General practitioner and researcher Shakib Sana has been appointed as a member of the Pharos Supervisory Board as of November 30, 2023.

“Shakib has a big heart and as a general practitioner he really makes a difference for his patients, who often live in disadvantaged areas. With his enthusiasm as a general practitioner and a solid foundation in practice and science, he is an asset to our Supervisory Board!”, says chairman Mariëtte Hamer. Shakib Sana is literally at the center of society. During corona, he was committed to clear and accessible information provision in vulnerable neighborhoods. Together with other healthcare providers, medical students and neighborhood parents, he also provided information about vaccines at Rotterdam markets and was committed to making information accessible and understandable.

Pharos director Patricia Heijdenrijk: “Shakib understands the underlying factors of health differences and that you can only work on solutions together with the people involved. I look forward to being able to benefit from his experiences and insights as a director.”

Shakib Sana on his appointment

“I have been a general practitioner for 13 years. As a doctor, I experience many situations where the impact of health differences is clearly visible. I see it in my practice, but also during home visits. I have experienced firsthand the importance of good information provision. During corona, I and colleagues were involved in the creation of accessible information and vaccination locations in the district. I also saw it at the information meetings ofgezondheidvlucht.nl and Tussentelefoon.nl. That is why I am happy to use my experience as a general practitioner and scientist for Pharos. I look forward to furthering Pharos’ mission together with the other Supervisory Board members and the board. We face major challenges to ensure that the health gap does not widen due to increased health inequalities and the threat of digital exclusion.”
