The boss of General Motors, Mary Barra, will take in January the head of the organization representing the largest American companies, Business Roundtable, and thus become the first woman to lead it.
She will succeed Doug McMillon, general manager of Walmart supermarkets, who himself replaced Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase bank, details a statement Wednesday. Business Roundtable brings together leaders of multinationals from all sectors, from Pfizer to Apple to McDonald’s.

The organization regularly takes a stand on issues that directly concern its members, such as taxation or international trade agreements, but also on broader societal issues, such as electoral laws or violence against minorities. For Doug McMillon, Mary Barra brings a “understanding of American workers and a vision for the future” who is “exactly the perspective the organization needs as we continue to work with Congress and government on the public policies of tomorrow».
Appointed at the head of General Motors in 2014, Mary Barra remains one of the few women to manage a large group in the United States: according to the Catalyst organization, only 30 of the companies included in the S&P 500 stock index, or 6 %, are headed by a woman.
