General Motors is planning a comeback. A wave of American electric cars will head to Europe

General Motors is an important player among the world’s largest car companies. The American company has invested massively in the field of electromobility in recent years.

And it is with them, but not only with them, that the company now intends to return to the European market. She left it in 2017 by selling the Opel and Vauxhall brands to the PSA concern (today Stellantis) and withdrew overseas. Only limited imports of Cadillac and Chevrolet Corvette remained in Europe.

But already last year, GM re-founded the European division and is now slowly but surely preparing a spectacular return in electric style.

The automaker is expected to announce the expansion plan early next year. But confident words are already being heard from the American camp: “We are practically certain that we will be a significant player on the market,” said the head of GM Europe, Mahmoud Samara.

According to him, it was crucial for GM that the European Union and Great Britain began to adopt electric cars on a large scale.

GM will go to Europe with a trio of brands – Cadillac, Chevrolet and Hummer – to compete with strong European brands led by Audi or Volkswagen. According to Samara, the strategy will rather go the way of Tesla or Polestar. It will therefore build smaller car showrooms around Europe and target more demanding customers and online sales.

“Chevrolet is a global brand, Cadillac is a global brand, and Hummer is also a global brand. They are therefore suitable for the given purpose,” added Samara.
