TIJUANA.- The altruistic donation of blood and platelets is an act of solidarity that benefits us all. By having sufficient reserves, the general hospitals of Tijuana, Tecate and Playas de Rosarito can meet the needs of people who are undergoing surgery,
whether due to accidents or for different reasons, as well as cancer patients who require this resource to recover faster.
Yolanda Ibarra, head of the Blood Bank of the Tijuana General Hospital, calls for altruistic blood donation to be practiced during this month of December.
In response to this call, 56 members of the Smiles Foundation came to donate blood altruistically this weekend. Some came to donate blood last March, so, since there is a record of them as donors, the interview and blood collection process is faster.
The reception of donors is from Monday to Friday from 7 in the morning to 12 noon, since it is necessary to fast for at least 6 hours prior to the donation.
Among the requirements to donate are: presenting an official credential with a photograph that includes the Unique Population Registry Code (CURP), not having eaten fatty foods, bananas or dairy products 6 hours prior to the donation; not having taken alcoholic beverages or drugs. In the case of taking medications or having precarious health conditions or chronic illnesses, it is necessary to notify the staff, to evaluate whether you are a candidate to donate or not, since, above all, the health and well-being of the patients is taken care of. people in general.
The procedure includes an interview to find out the general health conditions of the donor, taking a prior blood sample and subsequently donating, in a process that takes on average an hour or less for first-time donors and half that, for those who They have attended on previous occasions.
