A general examination is recommended during a first routine appointment and then every 1 to 3 years depending on your needs.
A general examination is ideal in order to reassess the suitability of each drug with you, to check if the doses are well suited to your needs, to ensure that there are no interactions between your drugs and that they do not cause side effects.
A general examination is the ideal time for your doctor to get to know you in order to assess your personal risk factors (see section “preventive medicine”).
Here’s what a general exam is:
- A questionnaire on
- your family
- your job
- your medical, surgical and psychological history
- your allergies
- your vaccination profile
- your lifestyle (alcohol, smoking, drugs, etc.)
- any symptoms or complaints you would like to discuss
- your physical and psychological health
- A complete physical examination (including pelvic examination and breast examination for women)
- A diagnostic summary
- Prescription, if necessary, of investigations
- The prescription, if necessary, of treatments
- Targeted recommendations to guide you towards a healthy lifestyle
