General elections 2023: the CEO condemns the attitude of some opposition leaders – AGP

LIBREVILLE, July 14, 2023 (AGP) – In a statement made public this Friday, July 14, the Secretary General of the Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG, in power), Steeve Nzegho Dieko, condemned the attitude of certain opposition leaders who are illustrated by populist manoeuvres.

This exit of the secretary general of the Gabonese Democratic Party follows the tension which prevailed, this afternoon, at the seat of the Senate where the bill amending and supplementing certain provisions of article 77 of law n ° 07/96 of March 12, 1996, ratified during the Council of Ministers held on July 12, did not fail to provoke reactions within the Gabonese political class.

Thus, several candidates for the 2023 presidential election took over the Senate esplanade to denounce the adoption of this modification.

“The CEO is indignant at the behaviors and other attitudes that are, to say the least, unworthy displayed by certain political actors. The political fight does not authorize all forms of transgression, invective, insult, aggressive and populist postures likely to stir up tensions,” said Steeve Nzegho Dieko.

He also invited the opposition leaders concerned not to lower the political debate. “The CEO condemns these diversionary maneuvers aimed at creating a climate of psychosis in this pre-campaign period,” he concluded.

The general elections (presidential, legislative and local) are scheduled for August 26, a date set by the Gabonese Election Center (CGE).
