Public and free conference offered by the town hall of Thionville and the Société d’Histoire d’Archéologie de la Lorraine (SHAL) of Thionville as part of the 150th anniversary of the war of 1870-1871. The lecturer Patrick Serre will evoke General Camille Crémer who, after having covered the retreat of the 2nd CA of General Frossard in Sarreguemines on August 7, 1870 and having fought valiantly in Borny on August 14, 1870, in Rezonville and Gravelotte on August 16, 1870, in Saint-Privat and Amanvillers on August 18, 1870, underwent the siege of Metz from August 20, 1870, from which he managed to escape when Marshal Bazaine delivered the Army of the Rhine to Prince Frédéric-Charles of Prussia October 27, 1870. The future General Crémer then took the road to France to continue the fight against the Prussian army by going to offer his sword to the Government of National Defense of Gambetta. From there, he went on to win victories in Bourgogne-Franche Comté during the terrible winter of 1870-1871.
