General authorization for the extradition of a Korean-New Zealand criminal with a body bag

Suspect A submitted a consent form to the court … Final decision by the Ministry of Justice

A New Zealand woman of Korean descent who has been identified as a strong culprit in the case of a child’s dead body in a purse should be repatriated.

Seoul High Court Criminal Division 20 (Chief Judge Jeong Seon-jae Kang Hyo-won and Kim Gwang-nam) approved A’s extradition on 11.

The court was originally supposed to call Mr A on the 14th of this month to ask if he would be extradited to New Zealand, but the program was delayed as Mr A filed an “extradition consent” through his lawyer on the 8th. .

On the 10th, the court confirmed A’s will if he had actually consented to the extradition.

It was reported that Mr. A has repeatedly expressed his intention to consent to extradition to court.

New Zealand police launched an investigation into the murder when the bodies of two children were found in a suitcase sold at a warehouse auction in August.

Local police searched for A, who is known as the victim’s biological mother, as a likely suspect.

A, who immigrated to New Zealand and acquired local citizenship, returned to Korea after the incident and was arrested in Ulsan in September.

After receiving a criminal extradition request from the New Zealand Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Justice ordered an extradition review request from the Seoul Higher Prosecutor’s Office, seeing that there were good reasons to suspect that Mr. A had committed the crime requested.

Extradition review is a unique proof system, so there is no appeal procedure.

If the Minister of Justice makes a final decision, Mr. A will be repatriated to New Zealand.

An official from the Ministry of Justice said: “We will examine it in consideration of the national interest” and “We will make a decision as soon as possible”.
