Libreville, Thursday, May 25, 2023 (Infos Gabon) – A three-day conference bringing together the ministers of the Economic Community of Central African States in charge of the Advancement of Women has been held since Thursday in Libreville at the Radisson Blu.
The Conference of Ministers of Gender and the Advancement of Women of the Economic Community of Central Africa (ECCAS) opened this Thursday in Libreville, Gabon. Placed under the aegis of the Gabonese first lady, Sylvia Bongo Ondimba, this meeting organized in partnership with the ECCAS Commission, UN Women, UNOCA and UNDP aims to lead to the development of a common agenda for the promotion of women’s rights within the sub-region. With the theme: “Building a common agenda in Central Africa for the promotion of women’s rights and their empowerment”, this conference brings together both politicians and experts from the 11 member states of this community.
On the menu, exchanges on good practices aimed at improving the living conditions of women by protecting them from violence and promoting female leadership. A reason for pride and encouragement for the Gabonese first lady who intends to continue the fight. “Receiving you today after years of battle that have led to the reform of our laws and the deployment of profoundly reforming measures for women’s rights, encourages me to continue this fight, to never give up, to never stop working. ‘contribute to this essential struggle as first lady, but above all as a woman for Gabonese women, but also for all the women of our continent,’ said Sylvia Bongo Ondimba. According to Florence Raes, Director of UN Women for West and Central Africa, “this is about accelerating and investing in the emancipation of girls, in supporting initiatives to that in a decade or two, we won’t be here talking about this anymore.”
