The Foreign Minister in the “Petkov” cabinet, Teodora Genchovska, became part of the team of the Acting Minister of Defense, Dimitar Stoyanov. This became clear during the ceremony in which Dragomir Zakov handed over his post to his successor.
Stoyanov explained that he accepted the post at an extremely difficult time because of the war in Ukraine. However, he was convinced that the Bulgarian armed forces are and will continue to be the guarantor of security, sovereignty and defense.
The main driver will be modernization of the army – what can be done without parliament. “We are awaiting the preparation of a budget – it was decided that 2% of GDP should go to defense and we will try to achieve this 2%”, added Stoyanov. The new defense minister was adamant that he would not politicize the Bulgarian army.
