Genaro Mendoza exhibits his art in Tampico – El Sol de Tampico

“Love does not unite us, but fear; that is why I love her so much” is a phrase that marks the life of Genaro Mendoza, a Mexican artist who, despite living in his native Mexico City He has found other spaces in the country to share his work.

In an interesting conversation with THE SUN OF TAMPICOthis talented sculptor reviewed part of his career artisticas well as his perception of this discipline that, in his own words, allows responding to the needs of creators and their environments.

His beginnings in the visual arts

From a very young age he felt a strong interest in shapes, colors and volumes, which led him to study Architecture and later Visual Arts in different workshops in Guadalajara, Jalisco.

As he remembers, he was never the best student and was constantly reproached by his teachers. Despite this, his love for painting and, above all, sculpture, never diminished and he continued to study and prepare.

“I don’t know if I got what they expected from me, but I try not to make my creatures so abnormal. I want them to be kind and honest if they’re not sweet,” express.

In this sense, Genaro He shared that he always moved away from the materials that can be found in sculpture in a common way; including stone, wood and metals.

“In case I have outlined myself a bit because of the cardboard, how can I explain this if it is not from a rescue or environmentalist intention that is called recycling materials?”, assured the Mexican sculptor.

A strong relationship with the Jaibo port

Talking about some of the experiences that helped shape his artistic vision, Genaro stated that despite being born in the Mexico Cityhas a strong link with the southern zone of Tamaulipas.

Going deeper into this, the sculptor shared with us that he has had the opportunity to see how the passage of time has affected the city and its different attractions, such as the Carpenter’s Lagoonwhich a few decades ago was nothing more than a place for waste.

“Today is a place privileged and that both for the people of the country and for foreigners it comes to be very attractive and not only in a purely touristic sense, but also in recycling” express.

His love for the south of the entity can be found in the piece “Khartes moreletii” which is the figure of a crocodile carrying a Tamaulipas skin; icons give identity to the region in the country and abroad.

It has an exhibition in Tampico

It is important to mention that this sculpture, in addition to the work “Symbiosis”, is exhibited in the Metropolitan Cultural Space; venue where Genaro teaches a workshop for young people and adults.
