/ world today news/ “The age-old friendship between the Bulgarian and Russian people will outlive every political winter,” declared the candidate for president and supreme commander, nominated by the BSP general. Rumen Radev at the 13th National Congress of Friends of Russia “Koprinka” on Sunday (September 11).
He emphasized that at the meeting, a strong emotion united all those gathered, non-partisan, from all parties and regions of Bulgaria. “This is our historical appreciation for the thousands of Russian wars that, together with the Bulgarian militiamen, brought freedom to Bulgaria,” emphasized Radev.
According to him, relations between the EU, including Bulgaria and Russia, are in a difficult period. “I am convinced that the will of Bulgaria is to assist in overcoming this problem. It is high time for our relations with Russia to be on an open, clear and patriotic basis, devoid of any ideologies,” the general was categorical.
In his words, we must restore dialogue and trust and prevent any escalation of tensions between NATO and Russia. “Bulgaria is a loyal member of the EU and NATO, but our foreign policy must be developed in Sofia and be consistent with our national interests and be defended externally in those unions in which we are members, and not the other way around,” he said he.
According to him, under no circumstances should Russia be declared an enemy in this complex world situation. Radev added that in recent years, Russia has become an insurmountable factor in solving many problems of the modern global world.
“Sanctions against Russia should be lifted, because they harm both the Russian and the European economy equally. No one benefits from them and we will not see anything good from them,” the general was categorical.
He commented that we should strive to restore the trade relationship with Russia that we frittered away in the 1990s. “The cultural and spiritual connection between our two peoples is capital for both Bulgaria and Russia, and you, gathered here today, are a conduit of this connection. It is our duty as Bulgarians, as patriots, to pass on to the next generations the warmth and humanity in the relations between our two peoples”, concluded Gen. Rumen Radev.
