On Thursday evening, a fire in a sawmill in Massenbuch near Gemünden triggered a large-scale fire brigade operation. The sawmill and an empty neighboring house burned down. Nobody got hurt.
The fire broke out around 7pm. Firefighters from the entire district of Main-Spessart intervened on the spot with about 200 rescues to keep the flames under control. The sparks were huge.
Fire water pumped from the pipeline
The water supply caused difficulties: in order to cover the large need for fire water, the emergency services had to pump water from the Main about two kilometers away in the village. In addition, farmers with tankers brought water to the fire site, the so-called Red Farmer. A police helicopter was also deployed to control the situation from above.
Evacuate the neighboring houses
Emergency services evacuated several residential buildings in the densely built neighborhood. Those who were on the site of the sawmill when the fire broke out managed to escape.
Cause of the fire unclear
The cause of the band is still unclear. The Kripo Würzburg has resumed the investigation. According to police estimates, the damage should be between six figures.
