Geiranger, boy | The boy who drowned in Geiranger was from Larvik – the municipality creates a crisis team

The 22-month-old boy who died in Geiranger on Tuesday, and his family, are from Larvik.

Mayor of Larvik municipality, Erik Bringedal, confirms to Østlands-Posten that the 22-month-old boy who died in Geiranger on Tuesday is from Larvik.

– This is a terrible tragedy for everyone involved. This is a boy who goes to a municipal kindergarten. We can not yet go into which, because we are in the process of providing information to the employees in the kindergarten, Bringedal explains.

According to the newspaper, the municipality is now in the process of setting up a psychosocial crisis team, and is making a plan for what will happen next, both with regard to the next of kin and for family, friends and the employees in the kindergartens who need to talk to someone. .

It was just before 4 pm on Tuesday that the police were notified that a boy of almost two years had ended up in a tributary of the Geiranger River in Møre og Romsdal, close to Union Hotell.

After rescue crews and volunteers had been searching for about six hours, the boy was found dead a little over 9.30 pm.

According to the police, the boy must have fallen from a bridge:

– The mother then threw herself into the water to save the boy, Gram Franck tells Nettavisen.

The mother was then led downstream, before landing for her own machine. The boy was taken with the power on.

The family was on holiday in the area, being taken care of by a crisis team in the municipality.

A local contractor tried earlier in the evening to stem the river where the boy disappeared. The goal was to reduce or remove the water flow and thus facilitate the search along the river. The rescue crew was then to make a fine search along the river.

– We are still looking with full force, and will continue to do so throughout the afternoon and evening, said operations manager Borge Amdam in Møre og Romsdal police district to Nettavisen at 6 p.m.

Large search crews were sent to the site:

– We have four helicopters, many boats and many other resources on the way. Divers arrive immediately, said rescue leader Edvard Middelthon at the Main Rescue Center South Norway to Nettavisen around 16.45.
