AMSTERDAM – A professional angler Martin Glatz managed to catch
rare giant catfish yellow in a lake in the Netherlands. According to researchers, the catfish may have a rare genetic disorder called leucism.
Quoted from Live Science, Thursday (10/21/2021), Glatz got the rare fish while pursuing a hobby of fishing with his twin brother, Oliver. “I’ve never seen a catfish like that before,” Glatz said.
According to Field & Stream, the Whopper is the Wels catfish (Silurus glanis), a large species native to lakes and rivers throughout Europe.

Known for their enormous size, they can grow up to 2.7 meters long and weigh nearly 130 kilograms, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
“But this fish that Glatz caught is rare fish because of the yellow color. Most Welsh catfish have a dark greenish-black body, with some yellow spots,” says NOAA.
This yellow catfish is not the first time this has been discovered in the world, in 2017, a leucistic yellow catfish spotted in the Mississippi River in Iowa, made headlines in the local newspaper Herald & Review at the time.
