A woman in Italy lost three fingers due to infection corona virus. This incident is suspected because COVID-19 has damaged the blood vessels in the woman’s finger.
Quoted from Daily Mail, a doctor treating the 86-year-old woman said that she had to cut off her patient’s finger because she had gangrene. Gangrene is a condition when some of the body’s tissues die due to obstruction of blood supply due to a severe infection.
It is known that in some cases, COVID-19 can cause damage to the blood vessels, causing a dangerous blockage known as a blood clot.
Before the amputation, the woman’s three fingers turned black. Therefore, this woman is believed to have blood clots, so that blood flow to her fingers is obstructed.
Not the first case
Some time ago a 54-year-old man from California, United States, also reportedly had to give up two fingers because of this COVID-19. He underwent an amputation allegedly because of the same thing as experienced by the woman from Italy.
A father of two in Wales, England, is also said to have undergone an amputation of his thumb and half index finger after contracting the coronavirus. He spent 61 days in hospital and was put on a ventilator to help him breathe.
