It has been reported that there is a problem with the 12V-2×6 (16-pin) conversion adapter included with the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER.
The problem was discovered by German media.igor’sLAB. According to igor’sLAB, when using the 12V-2×6 conversion adapter that comes with the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER, no matter how hard you push it, it won’t stick all the way until you hear a “click” as shown in the video below. Also, in that condition, the 12V-2×6 conversion adapter came out easily with just a little tug.
This condition is extremely dangerous as it may result in what is called a half-insertion. NVIDIA has long warned that half-inserting the 16-pin connector (formerly 12VHPWR) may cause the connector to melt.
After inserting and removing igor’sLAB about 20 times in total, it made a slight “click” sound and managed to get stuck deep inside, making it difficult to remove. On the other hand, when I tried the conversion adapter that came with the GeForce RTX 4080 Founders Edition, it made a clear “click” sound and stuck firmly. igor’sLAB points out that the 12V-2×6 conversion adapter included with the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER is of poor quality. Also, when inserting the device, you should hear a “click” sound to remind you to make sure that it does not come out easily.
If it does not penetrate properly even after several tries, please prepare another 12V-2×6 conversion adapter or return the product itself, as there is a risk of damaging the connector pin of the Grabo main unit. I recommend it.
Please note that the extent of this bug’s impact is unknown. At this point, it is unclear whether igor’sLAB was just unlucky enough to receive a defective product, or whether it is having a broader impact. In any case, when connecting to a 12V-2×6 / 12VHPWR connector, not just the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER, be sure to insert it all the way until it clicks and check that it cannot be pulled out easily.
