GeForce RTX 4060 Ti: Controversial Pricing and Limited Availability Impact Sales

At the time of its release, the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti was criticized primarily for its memory capacity (8 GB), which does not correspond to hardware of this performance level. When the 16GB version arrived, Nvidia priced it so high ($499) that it simply doesn’t make sense to buy it. Hardware with similar or better performance has been available for a similar or lower price for a long time. Demand for this card was (and is) minimal. One of Japan’s most prominent hardware retailers, Dospara Akihabara, even took a picture of the only customer who came to buy the card on the day it was released.

Despite the minimal sales, the prices of cards lying in stock started to decrease slightly in Europe only a few days ago. However, it seems that the discounts will not last long. News came from China that, despite the fact that the stock of these cards there has been significantly depleted, no new deliveries are in sight. The prices of the remaining cards are rising as a result and have already reached above the price level at the time of release (3199 RMB / $447 → 3299 RMB / $461 US).

According to sources from the distribution channels, this is a decision by Nvidia, which prefers poorer availability of cards to discounts that would reduce the company’s income. Despite being a card with negative reviews and marginal demand, the price is rising.

The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti currently competes with the Radeon RX 6700 XT / 6750 XT (12GB) and the Radeon RX 6800 (16GB). These models are expected to more or less replace the Radeon RX 7700 announced in August and released in September, which should be equipped with 12GB of memory.
