The Dutch far-right politician Geert Wilders (PVV) is prepared to relinquish the premiership if a right-wing government is established. Dutch media reported this on Wednesday evening.
The leaders of VVD, NSC and BBB – the three other parties involved in the negotiations for a Dutch government – would also not take up a ministerial position. They will therefore sit in the House of Representatives. The party leaders have made agreements about this with informant Kim Putters.

Since his election victory in November, Wilders had always indicated that he wanted to become prime minister. But in a response on X, formerly Twitter, he now acknowledges that he did not have enough support. “I can only become prime minister if all parties in the coalition support it. The four parties would create a so-called ‘extra-parliamentary cabinet’, which works with a concise coalition agreement and has a looser relationship with parliament. Pieter Omtzigt’s NSC party in particular had shown itself to be in favor of this method.
It would mean that the leader of the largest party in the Netherlands will no longer become prime minister for the first time since the 1970s. It is not yet clear who could become prime minister.
Informant Kim Putters will hand in the final report on his information assignment on Thursday. On Tuesday, Putters had already said that “a next step” can be taken in the government formation.
