Geely launches a new car brand

The Chinese manufacturer Geelyowner of Volvo, Polestar and Lotus, as well as a major shareholder of Mercedes and partner of the division responsible for the development of internal combustion engines by Renault, has officially launched a new brand specializing in premium electric and hybrids. The new brand, named Geely Galaxy it will join the others created by the Chinese group: Geometry, Livan and Zeekr. Three models are expected to debut by the end of 2023.

The first model in the Galaxy range, which can already be booked in China, is a 470 cm long plug-in hybrid SUV called Geely Galaxy L7. It is distinguished by angular lines, with a front where there are thin horizontal headlights and vertical daytime running lights. A lot of technology on board where there are three displays: one of 10.25″ for the instrumentation, a vertical one of 13.2″ for the multimedia system and one of 16.2″ for the passenger. After the Geely Galaxy L7 is expected the exit of the sedan L8 Hybrid equipped with the same plug-in hybrid powertrain. The sedan is expected by the end of the year Galaxy E8anticipated by a concept called Galaxy Light (in the photos below).

Geely Galaxy plans to have a range of seven new models within the next two years. Of the seven new products, four will be hybrid-electric models, including the Galaxy L7 SUV and L6 sedan, with deliveries to begin in the second and third quarter of 2023. Three models instead fall within the range of electric Galaxy E, with the release of the E8 sedan expected in the fourth quarter of 2023. The Geely Galaxy models will be engineered on a dedicated intelligent electrified architecture, as well as on the E-CMA platform, intended for models plugins.

In the presentation event of the new brand, Geely also presented a number of new electrified technologies, including the new security system battery-operated Aegis, the powertrain NordThor Hybrid 8848 and the operating system for connected and intelligent vehicles Galaxy N-OS.

The Galaxy series will be the brand’s first to use the system battery safety Geely’s Aegis, which, according to the house, when paired with the car’s Wise Star Cloud Connected central processing system, is able to predict and prevent thermal runaway, thus increasing battery life by 20%.

The latest generation of the hybrid engine NordThor 8848, which achieved a thermal efficiency of 44.26%. The NordThor 8848 powertrain uses a predictive energy management system that can improve fuel economy by up to 15%. Combined with the three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT), the new powertrain will be used on the Geely Galaxy L7 SUV, guaranteeing a top speed of 200 km/h and a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds, with consumption fuel consumption of 5.23 l/100km (1,370 km covered on a full tank in hybrid driving conditions).

The Chinese giant also showed the new operating system, developed according to the Smart Geely 2025 strategy, according to which Geely Auto relies on its own chips, operating systems, cloud computing and satellite networks. The software is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8155 vehicle chip.
