A great desire to attribute the label of “TeleMeloni” and to deploy all their anti-government zeal. And so we end up seeing the speck in the eyes of others and not the beam that blinds our own. And this is precisely what is happening to Repubblica and La Stampa, which for months have been engaged in a non-objective reading of the audience figures of Italian public and private television. Hence the no-holds-barred challenge between the Gedi group and UniRai, the new union of public service journalists. A journalistic report aired on 8 January in the 8pm edition of Tg5 was dedicated to all this.
Tg5 has therefore revealed the real sales numbers of the newspapers on newsstands. Let’s see what they are in detail. In the first 9 months of 2023, a total of 1.43 million copies were sold per day, down 8.8% on an annual basis and 32.8% compared to the same period of 2019. As if that wasn’t enough, among In October 2022 and October 2023, Repubblica went from 80,121 copies sold on newsstands to 70,834, with a deadweight loss of readers of 12%. In the same period, La Stampa suffered a deadweight loss of as much as 14% of readers, going from 65 thousand to 56 thousand. Better to see the speck in other people’s eyes…
