GE Aerospace y Cargolux signed a long-term support and maintenance agreement for the GE9X, which powers the new freighter fleet Boeing 777-8 Cargolux.

This agreement includes a multi-year service contract GE TrueChoiceas well as the order for two spare engines.

It was also agreed to extend the TrueChoice services for the Boeing 747-8F fleet of Cargolux powered by GEnx-2B engines. In October 2022, Cargolux unveiled plans to replace its aging fleet of 747-400 freighters with an order for 10 Boeing 777-8F aircraft.

“Cargolux is committed to investing in fuel-efficient engines that emit significantly less CO2,” said Richard Forson, Cargolux Chairman and CEO. And GE’s newest engine, the GE9X, he said, offers the latest technology that will help the airline to improve sustainability while increasing operational efficiency.

Compared to GE’s CF6 engine, the GEnx engine offers up to 15% better fuel efficiency. Like all GE commercial engines, both the GE9X and GEnx are compatible with any approved blend of sustainable aviation fuel and regular jet kerosene.

IHI Corporation, Safran Aircraft Engines, Safran Aero Boosters y MTU Aero Engines AG participate in the GE9X engine program.
