The occupational disability insurance also pays for Covid-19. The GDV has now made that clear.

Covid-19 is just like any other disease for insurers. The German Insurance Association (GDV) points this out. “Both when concluding occupational disability insurance and during the performance test, Covid-19 is therefore subject to the usual requirements of the respective insurer. These requirements are set individually by each insurer, ”says GDV General Manager Jörg Asmussen.
It is common in the industry that disability insurance can be taken out as normal, provided that a previous illness has completely healed and the treatment of the illness has not resulted in any negative effects on health. If health restrictions persist, such as permanent lung damage, insurers examine the need for risk surcharges on the premium or exclusions from insurance cover.
No special role at Covid-19
It is irrelevant what the cause of the health impairment is. In this regard, Covid-19 has no special role. As a rule, the vaccination status, for example with regard to flu vaccinations or basic immunization, does not play a role in the health check. This also applies to vaccinations against Covid-19.
The occupational disability insurance is a sensible form of protection against a multitude of risks that can lead to occupational disability. “If there is a conditional disability, the insurance pays. The reasons for the incapacity to work do not play a role. So if someone becomes unable to work due to the consequences of a Covid-19 disease or the consequences of a vaccination against Covid-19, the insurance pays ”, explained Asmussen.
