It’s getting tight on the rails: Because the GDL is calling for warning strikes, nothing works for many hours. These lines are affected.
Train travelers in Lower Saxony and around Bremen have to be prepared for train cancellations on the Nordwestbahn at the weekend. The German Locomotive Drivers’ Union (GDL) is calling for a twelve-hour warning strike on Saturday. This should last from 2:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The reason given by the union on Thursday was that it had broken off collective bargaining negotiations with the railway company Transdev, which, among other things, also operates the S-Bahn in Hanover and to which the Nordwestbahn belongs.
The regional S-Bahn lines RS 1 (Bremen-Farge-Verden), RS 2 (Bremerhaven-Lehe-Twistringen), RS 3 (Wilhelmshaven-Bad Zwischenahn-Bremen) and the RS 4 line (Nordenham-Bremen) are affected ). There are also twelve-hour restrictions on the RS 6 (Rotenburg-Verden) and RS 30 (Bad Zwischenahn-Bremen) lines.
The Weser-Ems network was also affected
The Nordwestbahn lines in the Weser-Ems network are also affected by the strike. Specifically, these are the lines RE 18 (Wilhelmshaven-Osnabrück), RB58 (Bremen-Osnabrück) and RB59 (Esens-Wilhelmshaven). As a private regional railway operator, Nordwestbahn belongs to the Transdev Group.
Transdev and GDL have been negotiating for several months. The second round of negotiations took place on October 13th in Berlin. According to the GDL, employers recently offered a wage increase of eleven percent over a period of 24 months. The union is demanding a wage increase of 555 euros over a period of twelve months and a reduction in weekly working hours.
The GDL federal chairman Claus Weselsky said that only through better working conditions could railway professions be made more attractive again. “There was no offer to reduce working hours, no offer to shorten shift sequences, no offer to take longer rest days and no offer to improve company pension schemes.”
