The GCK Lions’ next home game against Sierre brought them back down to earth after three great victories. The Valaisians were simply too strong and dominated almost the entire game. Joshua Lawrence scored twice in the first period for a 2-0 lead. The second goal came with a double majority. Shortly before the half of the game, Noah Böhler, also in the majority, was able to reduce the score to 1:2. But in the 33rd and 38th minutes there were two more goals to make it 1:4, the last by former GCK player Leonardo Fuhrer. Again in the power play, defender Yannick Balser reduced the score to 2:4, which was well deserved due to Zurich’s improvement in the final period. The fifth goal conceded fell into an empty net.
Then followed the cantonal derby against Winterthur. The fact that you can lose a game like this 0-1 is almost impossible. The GCK Lions were clearly superior throughout the game, but they simply couldn’t score any goals. 46:28 shots on goal document the blatant superiority. But the Winterthur team did a strong defensive job, including the goalkeeper. The fact that the guests were able to convert one of their few chances to score in the 36th minute sealed the GCK Lions’ bad luck.
This means that the GCK Lions remain somewhat behind in the back half of the table for the time being. But as the results show, anyone can beat anyone in this league.
