GCC Approves Unified Gulf Tourist Visa and Nominates Sur as Arab Capital of Tourism

Muscat: GCC tourism ministers have reached a unanimous agreement to introduce the much-discussed unified Gulf tourist visa, which will soon become a reality, Oman’s Heritage and Tourism Minister Salim Al Mahrooqi said. He was speaking to national television channel Oman TV after attending the GCC Tourism Ministers’ meeting organized by Oman at the Oman Across Ages Museum in Mana Wilayat, Dakhiliya Governorate.

Mahrooqi said that there will be many follow-up actions and meetings to discuss how to move forward to make this a reality and reach a complete understanding in this regard.

A proposal for a unified tourism visa will be presented at a meeting of interior ministers in Muscat in November. The meeting also approved the decision to nominate Sur as the Arab Capital of Tourism in 2024. The coastal city of Sur hosts many events throughout the year to attract Gulf tourism.

With ministers reaching an agreement, the move to introduce a common visa system that would facilitate travel and boost local tourism gained momentum.
