GC – Zion 3:1

The Grasshoppers get their first victory in the competition. Two unexpected goals gave Zurich a 3-1 home win against FC Sion.

The Grasshoppers waited almost a month for Lee Young-Jun, the 21-year-old striker from South Korea, to receive a work permit. A few days before the fifth Super League game of the season, Lee finally got it right and needed just 42 seconds to score for the first time in his first game for GC.

The next GC goalscorer this Saturday night, Latvian defender Kristers Tobers, ended a drought of nearly five years without a goal at club level. After an hour and three good minutes after Sion’s chance, the 23-year-old scored with a dropkick from 15 meters to make it 2-1. Tsiy Ndenge got the win in the 90th minute.

Even if Zurich’s three goals were somewhat accidental, the victory was deserved. GC did a lot and had good chances as well as the actions that led to the goals. Sion didn’t offer much more than the beautiful combination that preceded Kevin Bua’s 1-1 draw. As a result of the win, GC handed YB the last place in the table.

Lucerne – Winterthur 3-0

FC Luzern wins for the third time in a row. Lars Villiger was impressive as a double goalscorer in the 3-0 home win against Winterthur.

In his 50th Super League game, Lars Villiger showed how important he is to the FCL in this young season. The Central Swiss team showed a strong, composed performance, which the 21-year-old home player put forward with his two goals. He now has four league goals and one cup goal this season. German newcomer Sinan Karweina had a sense of success with the 3-0 win. This was his first goal in the Super League.

Against the harmless players of Winterthur, Villiger made it 1-0 after just two and a half minutes. The young Swiss international got ahead of Winterthur goalkeeper Markus Kuster and slotted past the Austrian into the net. After the break, a perfect pass from Thibault Klidjé put him in position to finish. With a lob he beat the Greek Stefanos Kapino, who replaced Kuster who was injured during the break.

Winterthur coach Ognjen Zaric will have a few things to think about in the coming days. His team did very little with their possessions. Two chances after the break, when shots went just wide of the post, were the best the Zurich side had to offer.
