According to the British newspaper The Times, the error occurred when payments from 2,000 corporate accounts were made twice.
Santander stressed that he had already started talking to rival institutions, explaining that the banks “will try to recover the money from their clients’ accounts”. However, it is unclear how they will respond in case their customers have already spent the money. Santander finally specified that he could contact people directly to get the money back.
