Gas transit through Ukraine does not exceed the booked 109 million cubic meters per day

Russian gas supplies are minimal amid the highest gas prices in Europe and a significant increase in gas supplies to Turkey and China.
The Russian gas monopoly Gazprom in 2021 transited about 145 billion cubic meters of gas to the EU countries. This is the minimum number over the past six years, said the CEO of the Ukrainian GTS Operator Serhiy Makogon on Facebook on Thursday, December 16.
According to him, Gazprom reports on pumping 40 billion m3 through Ukraine in 2021, which is almost 30% less than in 2020 and 45% less than in 2019.
“In general, in 2021, the volume of gas supplies by Gazprom to the EU countries will amount to about 145 billion cubic meters, which will be the minimum over the past six years and less than in 2020. And this is against the background of maximum gas prices in the EU and a significant increase in gas supplies to Turkey and China, “wrote Makogon.
He noted that despite the Kremlin’s statements about the start of supplies of additional volumes of gas to the EU, transit through Ukraine does not exceed the booked 109 million cubic meters per day.
“The price of gas in the EU has already exceeded $ 1,500 and this is the result of Russia’s reluctance to increase supplies to the EU until Nord Stream 2 is certified. I hope that such blackmail will not work and Europe will draw appropriate conclusions about reducing dependence on energy resources from the Russian Federation.” – said Makogon.
He recalled that the capacity of the Ukrainian GTS is 145 billion cubic meters. This is enough to ensure all of Gazprom’s exports to the EU even without other existing gas pipelines (SP-1, Yamal and others).
As a reminder, on December 15, Russian Gazprom stated that fulfilled obligations for gas transit through Ukraine.
In turn, Sergei Makogon expressed concern that Russia this winter may stop transit gas through Ukraine… According to him, it will be an open, unfounded aggression.
