/ world today news/ “Gazprom”, E.ON, Royal Dutch Shell and OMV have signed a memorandum of intent, which provides for the companies to cooperate in the creation of a gas transport infrastructure for direct supplies of Russian gas to European consumers, according to a statement from the Russian company.
The document reflects the intentions of the parties to implement a project for the construction of two branches of the gas pipeline from the Russian coast through the waters of the Baltic Sea to the German coast. The expected capacity of the new gas pipeline will be 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
In the near future, all parties that have signed the memorandum will proceed to the creation of a joint company.
Gazprom has been studying the possibilities of increasing the throughput of this route since the commissioning of the Nord Stream gas pipeline. Now we, together with our partners, are starting work on the implementation of this project. The creation of additional transport infrastructure along the shortest route connecting the northern gas fields in Russia and markets in Europe will contribute to increasing the security and reliability of supplies under the new contracts,” said Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller.
