Born in Châteauroux, his family quickly settled in the 11th district in Paris. He spent his teenage years between bullshit and homes. But it was in the studios that the rapper found his way, there he was “in its element”. An hour here and there, paid for with his theft, when renting a studio was still very expensive.
The young man started with rap, then began to trap before discovering la drill. This hip-hop sub-genre was started in the early 2010s by young rappers and producers from the South Side neighborhoods of Chicago. It was then democratized all over the world, especially in London where the scene is very prolific.
Drill, Gazo discovered it thanks to his friends. A current to which he did not necessarily adhere before understanding all its strength, power and popularity. But would drill be opportunism? “When I started rapping, the Chicago drill didn’t even exist yet. (…) First I rapped, then I saw the trap coming, I trapped, and now it’s the drill and I’m in it. That’s how we adapt. “
Gazo brought in several European rappers for his debut DRILL FR including the German Luciano, the British Unknown T and Pa Salieu or the Belgian Hamza. The idea? Go beyond French-speaking borders and be listened to beyond the French-speaking world.
Video meeting to evoke his childhood, the drill and his projects.
