The Israeli army announced on Tuesday the opening of a new route for humanitarian aid to enter the Gaza Strip following American pressure.
The army said in a statement, “Today (Tuesday) the Kissufim crossing was opened to transport humanitarian aid trucks.” According to the statement, “The aid entered the Gaza Strip after strict security checks at the Kerem Shalom crossing by security personnel attached to the border crossings authority of the Israeli Ministry of Defense.”
The aid entry process includes the delivery of “food, water, medical supplies and shelter equipment to central and southern Gaza Strip,” according to the statement.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog is expected to meet Tuesday with US President Joe Biden at the White House.
The meeting comes, according to the Israeli news website Walla, in the wake of reports that Biden is trying to take advantage of the few months left in the White House to reach a settlement to end on the war in Lebanon, and to make some progress in terms of creating a deal with spies, detainees and prisoners, and a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

The newspaper quoted sources as saying that this crossing will be designated to bring aid into central and southern Gaza.
Earlier today, Israeli media reported that Israel’s small security and political council decided to increase humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, as a result of the month-long deadline given by the United States to Israel to to improve the humanitarian situation in the Strip, nearing completion.
The Israel Broadcasting Authority indicated that the Council agreed to what it described as “humanitarian measures” in Gaza, in case Washington imposes sanctions on Israel or restricts the supply of weapons to it.
According to Israel’s Channel 13, Israel will make it clear to the American administration that there will be no urgency to move residents from the combat zones in the Gaza Strip.
