Gaza: Two Al Jazeera journalists were killed in an Israeli raid – 2024-08-01 23:18:46

A reporter and a cameraman for Qatari television channel Al Jazeera were killed in an Israeli strike in Gaza City on Wednesday.

“Journalist Ismail al-Woul and his cameraman, Rami al-Refi, were killed in an Israeli attack in the Gaza Strip,” the channel reported, clarifying that this strike was aimed at “a car near the Aida sector, in the west of Gaza City.

A colleague of theirs, Anas Al Sharif, told Al Jazeera that Woul and Rifi were on their way to film near the home of Ismail Haniya, the Hamas leader who was killed in the early hours of Wednesday 7/31 in Iran.

According to the Hamas government, the two new deaths brought to 165 the number of Palestinian journalists killed by Israeli fire since October 7, 2023. Palestinian officials in Gaza have said the number could be much higher.

Also, dozens of media facilities or offices in Gaza have been completely or partially destroyed by Israeli attacks since the start of the war. Hundreds of Palestinian journalists and their families have been forcibly displaced.
