The UN World Food Program (WFP) today appealed to the international community and “all donors” to help feed the millions of Gaza Strip and rebuilding areas destroyed by the war between Hamas and Israel.
“We are calling for this critical moment to the international community and all donors to continue supporting WFP to save lives,” said Karl Scau’s deputy chief executive during his visit to the area.
This UN service said it has provided more than 15,000 tonnes of food since January 19, as soon as the fragile truce has come into force, taking into account the needs of 525,000 people, and stressing that more should be done.
“The range of needs is huge and we must continue to move on. The truce has to last, ”Carl Scaury adds in a statement.
“We have to work together in basic areas beyond the food sector – water, sewer system, shelters and even the return of children to school,” he added, stressing that they “require funding”.
Aid to Gaza residents to become self -sufficient may consist of the re -establishment of local feeding systems, such as agriculture and fishing, the service noted.
