Gaza: Rescue services say 23 dead in Israeli strikes –

Rescue services in the Gaza Strip said today that at least 23 people were killed in Israeli strikes on the Palestinian enclave, where the Israeli army targeted about 100 “terrorist targets” in the past two days.

According to the Gaza Civil Protection Agency, at least 11 people, including children and women, were killed in an early morning airstrike on a house in northern Gaza.

“Rescuers are looking for five people who are trapped in the debris,” explained the press representative of the Civil Protection Mahmoud Basal. “They work with their bare hands, as they do not have the proper equipment.”

According to Civil Protection, at least 12 people lost their lives in other Israeli bombardments throughout the Gaza Strip.

“The (Israeli) occupation is using the false pretext of the presence of militants to carry out heavy airstrikes against homes housing dozens of displaced people,” Mahmoud Basal complained.

For its part, the Israeli military announced today that it “struck more than 100 terrorist targets throughout the Gaza Strip and neutralized dozens of Hamas terrorists” on Friday and Saturday.

In addition, the Israeli military said it had hit sites used by Palestinian militants to launch missiles into Israel in recent days.

According to figures from the Hamas Health Ministry in Gaza, which are deemed reliable by the UN, at least 59 people were killed in the 24 hours from Friday to Saturday.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz on Wednesday threatened to intensify strikes against the Palestinian enclave if Hamas continues to fire rockets at his country.

Israel says it has been targeted almost daily for more than a week, even if the strikes are less frequent than at the beginning of the war, which began with an unprecedented attack by Hamas on Israeli soil on October 7, 2023.

The intensity of the fighting comes as indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel have resumed in Qatar with the aim of reaching a ceasefire agreement and the release of hostages held in Gaza.
