Gaza: New “movement” of civilians is requested by Israel – “Deep concern” about mass graves by UN – 2024-05-12 03:06:34

Undaunted, Israel’s army continues the work of slaughtering the suffering Gaza Strip and today he asked the residents of other districts Rafa, to move away from there and move to the “expanded humanitarian area” in al-Mawasi, according to a post made on X by a representative of the armed forces.

Meanwhile, members of the UN Security Council expressed deep concern over reports of the discovery of mass graves near the Nasser and Al Shifa hospital complexes in Gaza, where hundreds of people, including women, children and the elderly, had been buried.

The Security Council underlined the need for accountability for violations of international law and called for investigators to be allowed unfettered access to all mass grave sites in Gaza to conduct immediate, independent, thorough, comprehensive, transparent and impartial investigations into the case.

Members reiterated their demand that all parties comply scrupulously with their obligations under international law, including international humanitarian law and international human rights law, particularly with regard to the protection of civilians and civilian objects, and reaffirmed the importance of allowing families to know the fate and location of their missing relatives, in accordance with international humanitarian law.
According to the Security Council statement, all parties should immediately and fully implement resolutions 2728 (2024), 2720 (2023) and 2712 (2023).

State Department: Possible Violation of International Law by Israel

Israel may have violated international humanitarian law in the Gaza Strip by using weapons procured from Washington, according to a State Department report tabled in the US Congress.

The US government does not rule out this possibility, pointing out that in war zones it is difficult to assess individual incidents or draw solid conclusions.

The State Department notes that it has received reports from several credible sources – both UN agencies and non-governmental organizations – of possible human rights violations by the Israeli armed forces. “Several incidents have been reported that raise serious concerns,” the US State Department’s report underlines.

Since the US is Israel’s largest supplier of weapons systems, “it is reasonable to believe that defense equipment subject to NSM-20 (National Security Memorandum) was used by the Israeli security forces after October 7 in circumstances inconsistent with what the International Humanitarian Law or with established best practices for mitigating harm to civilians,” the State Department report said.
