Gaza: ‘Israel has failed to improve humanitarian situation despite US plea’, aid groups say –

International humanitarian organizations have announced that Israel has failed to meet a series of US demands aimed at improving the humanitarian crisis in Gaza to date.

The US told its ally, Israel, in a letter on October 13 that it should take steps to improve the humanitarian situation within 30 days.

Otherwise, it risks having restrictions on military aid imposed on it.

“Israel has not only failed to meet US criteria, which would indicate support for managing the humanitarian situation, but at the same time has taken actions that have dramatically worsened the situation on the ground, especially in Northern Gaza,” it says in a 19-page report. a group of eight humanitarian organizations including Oxfam, Save the Children and the Norwegian Refugee Council.

For more than a month Israeli forces have been pushing deeper into northern Gaza, surrounding hospitals and shelters and creating new waves of displaced people in an operation they say is designed to prevent Hamas fighters from regrouping there.

On Friday, global food security experts warned of the threat of famine in parts of northern Gaza unless immediate measures are taken to improve the situation.

On Monday, Israel announced that it had met most of the US demands. Some security issues remain under discussion, an Israeli official told reporters.

Other measures, including the opening of a new crossing into Gaza, have been implemented. The Israeli military today announced that hundreds of packages of food and water have been sent to parts of northern Gaza during a coordinated operation.

Washington has not commented on whether the conditions it has set have been met. Last week, the State Department announced that Israel has taken some steps to increase access to humanitarian aid in Gaza but has so far failed to significantly improve the humanitarian situation.
